Mr. Hai was a government servant of Bangladesh and worked in different ministries and organizations in different capacities. He retired from the service in June 2011 as Director, Foreign Investment, Board of Investment (BoI). After retiring he joined as ‘Adviser for Development Cooperation & Economic Affairs’ in the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh where he worked three and half years.
During working in BoI he worked as the Bangladesh Delegate at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Tokyo several times for promotion of Japanese investment into Bangladesh. Mr. Hai was responsible for the ‘Japan Desk’ and was the counterpart official of JICA Experts in addition to his assignment in BoI.
As a Bangladesh Delegate Mr. Hai travelled extensively in Japan and met a large number of Japanese companies and introduced them the investment opportunities in Bangladesh with the support of UNIDO Tokyo. He helped the Japanese companies in starting their business and sort out their pending issues with different organizations in Bangladesh. Because of Mr. Hai’s untiring effort and continuous support as many as 35-40 Japanese companies are now in operation.
In 2016 he was decorated with the Japanese Imperial Award "The Order of the Rising Sun" for his outstanding contribution in strengthening economic relationship between Japan and Bangladesh.
Mr. Hai was born in Chittagong in July 1954 and graduated in economics from the University of Chittagong. He did Masters Degree in Urban & Regional Planning from the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) and Post Graduate Degree from the Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands.
